I have no idea how to get past the elemental the illithid summons before dying. None of the items I gained on my way out work on it, portals don't work so can't run past it and it does too much damage to heal past. Any ideas? Or is there item that some alternative path provides that is required there?
I did that too, but I had to take earlier save. I had passed the room with cocoons entirely and you cannot return from the elder brain's chamber to earlier corridor. Hence I did not have on earlier attempt the sword.
Always be on the lookout for healing potions and try to save some for boss battles if possible. The mindflayer cocoon pod room has a full heal potion and a bull strength. You can also rest in brain room before entering the area that has the elemental. During testing I could beat the elemental consistently by using the bull strength and a well-timed use of the healing potion. And that was using the standard arena katana and not the keen sword. The battle is meant to be challenging and you should walk away with some significant damage. I also test at medium difficulty so I don't know how hardcore would play out.
After going through the dreamscape, the guard still doesn't let me enter. Do I have to keep sleeping or is it supposed to let me in right after I go through the dreamscape?
Hi. Are you referring to getting an audience with the Dakar? The three things that have to be done to get a new conversation from the guard are: - Dreamscape quest - Poisoned water quest (talk to Rakharo SW of the map) - Fight in the arena (talk to the foreman west of the map)
When going to the Scourge with Kristaly, there is a bug where she leaves after taking you to Avyndar, she gets stuck in a wall she walks thou, so even after you are taken to the baths to change your outfit and have dinner with Avyndar she is still stuck. So when he sends you of to met with the Shroud, the convo cuts of where he talks about he is tired of conflict ( can't remember word for word atm, but will go back and check) but where Kristaly is supposed to continue on in the convo, she can't because she is still in the wall.
I did reload from before talking to Jack, and that seamed to work.
Hmm, that sounds like a freak occurrence and more of a NWN bug. That might be hard for me to fix, but I'll keep an eye out and see if anyone else reports the same problem. If other people are getting that I'll see about redesigning the area if I get an idea of where it is happening. I'm glad you were able to get past it.
I also had this issue, and since I'd saved my game shortly before hand I loaded it up and had the same issue (probably about three times?), so I abandoned that playthrough. However, when I revisited it (after closing NWN and starting it up again) it ran fine first time.
I escaped the Minotaur cages and flipped the lever to free my comrades, but I can't seem to exit any of the doors in the room now. They're both locked and unpickable, and I don't see anything else to interact with in the room. Did I miss something or is this a bug?
She told me to go to storage and joined my party, but there's no way to exit the room. I assume this is a bug; I'll reload from before I entered the caves.
CRyan, what is supposed to happen during that scene is you find the floor lever, pull it and it releases your companions from their cages. Talk to the Dakina and at the very end of the conversation your whole team will auto-jump to the corridor. It sounds like the script at the end of the conversation didn't fire. It's clearly set to jump your team to the new location, so I don't know what could have happened.
I made a mistake. I accidentally escaped from conversation when you're supposed to be captured in the Everdark, and not noticing it, I save the game. My last save is quite far off. Can I trigger the conversation again with the console, or can I just switch to that are using the console?
I'll give you a console command that will jump you to the next area. That's what the conversation is supposed to do when it ends. I'm at work right now so I'll give it to you later. Maybe on my lunch break or when I get home this evening.
Where are you at exactly? If you are in the slave market then all you need to do is talk to Tagnus, the slaver. He initiates the same conversation on entry. If you are somewhere else then I need to know where you are so that I can give you the proper jump point.
I was in the mushroom caves, where Tessa and Sierra were supposed to get intoxicated and captured, but I reloaded in the end.
Maybe you could place another trigger there, or have the conversation trigger again if you talk to Tessa, because if somebody accidentally leaves the dialogue it breaks the game.
Strange. No one else has reported that so it's something specific to your system. You aren't required to enter Beta's boat. You just won't be able to buy and sell stuff with her.
Make sure your override folder is clear. Put only the necessary hak files in the hak folder (gladiatrix hak files and CEP hak files). Put other hak files that the module doesn't use in a different folder in case there is a conflict. Try turning down your graphic options in the main menu (turn off sky, grass, reflective water etc). You can try re-downloading the gladiatrix hak files or possibly something went corrupt with one of the CEP hak files. Before going too deep trying to fix it I would just skip Beta's boat. If you have have other areas that won't load then you have a bigger problem on your system.
You can try pulling up the preview module again and dash your character over to Beta's boat and see if it works. If it does then start a new game with the beta module and see if it works. If it does then maybe your save game got corrupt.
If all the above fails then I'm not sure what to suggest besides skipping the boat and hoping that all the other areas load. If it is a chronic problem with other areas then something is wrong on your system. Maybe dig out an old PC or laptop that is 5 to 10 years old. Everyone has an old system shoved in a closet, right? NWN works better on older systems anyway.
Thanks for the reply. I thought I needed to meet Beta before continuing.
It's a fresh install so I shouldn't have a lot of rubbish in my folders. The only other things I installed are Tony K's AI and NWNCQ. I'll try your suggestions and tell you how it goes.
I think I have the saved games from the preview. If I can't get this to work, could I load one of them and continue with the module, or could that cause problems?
Well, I changed the graphic options to the absolute minimum, removed other haks (I had a few from premium modules and such), cleaned the override, re-downloaded and re-installed the CEP, the module and all the Gladiatrix haks, and even tried a new game, but I still get stuck at one point when loading Beta's boat.
Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but I don't see what it could be. I'll try the preview, just out of curiosity. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to skip that area.
LoL. Tried the preview, and I have the exact same problem in the very first area (Mystwood).
Well, I guess I'll pass on Beta for now, then. I could ask on the Bioware forum and see if someone has ever experienced this problem with some module.
For the record, and if it makes a difference, the task manager shows the game as "active" after it freezes, but I've tried waiting for a while and nothing changed.
OK, this is getting weird. Not the same problem, but I cannot enter the tavern (there's just no door/transition point). I noticed this in the Mystwood houses as well, but I figured it'd be intended there.
So, I don't know what it is, but it definitely looks like there's something wrong with my game. I was thinking about trying a reinstall, as I'm out of ideas, but doors and buildings seem to work normally in other modules.
Arkalezth, I'm not using any unusual doors in the module. They are pretty much stock doors. Unfortunately, the things you are reporting are unique to your system. Out of 76 beta testers no one else has reported this. Make sure you are at version 1.69 of NWN.
I had a few people report to me that a couple areas wouldn't load for them in the first module. There were only three or four people that reported this and the problem area was the Apothecary. I'm not 100% sure, but I have a theory that their edition of NWN is missing some placeables. I made the modules with NWN Diamond edition. I'm wondering if newer editions, such as NWN Complete Collection, might be missing some placeables. I'm just speculating, but it's really weird that a very small segment of players end up having the same problems and the majority doesn't. It could also be a newer video card or system that just isn't behaving with NWN anymore.
Again, the tavern isn't critical but the way things are behaving for you there's a good chance you will eventually run into a critical area that won't load.
I'm not using the same version I did when I played the previous modules, so maybe it's related. I'll try a few more things (it's supposedly patched, but I'm downloading the critical rebuild, just in case), and if I can't fix it, I'll see about installing the other version. I hope I can play it in the end.
Either way, it's weird that I crashed in a different area when using the preview. If I'm missing a placeable or something, the crashes should happen at the same places.
This isn't exactly a bug but if Braxton dies in the battle with the illithid and you move on, the scene where you get separated plays out and you can continue on. This doesn't become a problem until the area Path to New Shroud base where it looks like you're supposed to meet up with him (I found his waypoint in the toolset).
I think it's better to check if he was still alive and get a game over if he wasn't so that no one has to do the whole Nar'Kasteel segment over again like I do now.
AAfter removing Landon from party you can't initiate a converastion with him in order to rejoin. The only chance is killing him and then resurrecting ;)
When did he get removed? He's only supposed to be on your team at certain times. Mainly from Forest of Sorrows through the Dakari encounter. He's not supposed to be on your team again unless you pick him for the war with the Scourge. If you force him on your team after the Dakari encounter then the module might behave a little weird or possibly break.
After Forrest of Sorrows in Valtrescan Lands. I chose "remove from party" manually as I wanted to explore the area myself as he was more of a dead weight than real help. After being happy with exploration I wanted him to rejoin but couldn't initiate any dialogue. With Tessa there is no such problem.
Hmm, "remove from party" in radial menu is very bad idea almost in any module. If you want to scout area alone, it's better to command "Stand Your Ground" via voice menu (V -> W -> X) or Landon's radial menu.
Yeah, since the companions are so critical to the story I wouldn't recommend removing them at all. You could miss a dialog with critical variables. I don't know of a way to rig NWN to not allow the removal of henchmen or I would set it. I'm glad you were still able to advance the module, even if you had to kill the poor guy :)
I think it might be fairly easy to disallow removal of henchmen provided I understand scripting of NWN editor. You need to remember two states :
Initial global variable & value : TessaJoined = false;
1) If NPC should be in your party, you set e.g. TessaJoined = true 2) If NPC should have left the party (e.g during his/her death (so you need to modify on_death script) or due to plot device), you set e.g. TessaJoined = false;
Then you need to use on_heartbeat method and in there check for a variable TessaJoined. If TessaJoined = true and Tessa is not in your party, there should be a method to add her back to your party. Of course in that adding method you can additionaly check, if - despite the variable TessaJoined = true - NPC isn't in such a state that he/she shouldn't be in a party, e.g. he/she is petrified or charmed etc.
Also funny thing is I got 100 XP for killing the poor guy ;) If you are a cleric with a raise dead / resurrection spell, it is an easy exploit for unlimited experience although it would be freaking tiresome to progress through rest periods to renew spell list ;)
I'm stuck after the drow attack on the elves. After the battle, I talk to Arawyn and Felven teleports correctly, but the conversation ends abruptly when I reach the point where I can give 3 possible answers, the first one being: "I'm wondering if they found a way to break it."
I've tried all the options, but they all finish the conversation. Same issue if I try talking to Arawyn again, and that's even worse because a new clone of Felven appears each time. So I think I'm stuck.
The first time it was a bit different. Arawyn ran away in the middle of the conversation. I thought that I could have missed an enemy, but I didn't see any, and I had rested in the area before (and that's not possible with nearby enemies).
I tried again and get it working now. My guess is that the Sylvan sage was dead the other times. In any case, he failed to weight in the conversation when he was supposed to. Maybe you should make him unkillable, if that's possible.
Okay, I have no idea what to do next. After the myconids get attacked by drow what exactly is supposed to happen? Should I go somewhere or is there some dialogue I'm missing..?
I'd love to continue but I've been stuck for a week now.

Thanks for the help. I hope I can (finally) start testing this properly.

ReplyDeleteStuck in the Illithid corridors.
ReplyDeleteIn the armory, but nothing happens with the rectangular portal.
Make sure you grab the House De'Mizzare symbol out of the drow chest. You have to have that to continue.

ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the wizard's tower!
ReplyDeleteWill that be the only side quest that was missing?
Yes, that and a few intimate encounter scenarios.
